Can God Change His Mind? What about Ninevah?

June 13, 2008

I have been in many discussion over the last few weeks about the video that was posted about the Testimony of Mike and Cheryl Bernard( Video ) also see their response letter

I have read all of the many responses to the video and people’s opinions back and forth. It has made me think about the story of Jonah. Now I know many people are saying it is all from the devil or the 3 days have not started yet…either way what about Jonah and Ninevah?

Do you remember the story of Jonah and Ninevah? God told Jonah to go and tell the warning to the city of Ninevah that they would be destroyed if they did not repent. But then the craziest thing happens…they repent. Even the king repents.

Then the story really twists and Jonah gets mad about the whole ordeal. Check out Jonah for the whole story. The end of the story is the best part and this is where it hits home for me. God says “…should I not pity Ninevah, that great city, in which are more than one hundred and twenty thousand persons who cannot discern between their right hand and their left…”

So I wonder about this thing with Mike and Cheryl. Is it possible that the third part of the message which affected all of us here in Atlanta, God saw that many were taking it the wrong way. I heard of churches, unions, families, businesses etc. ready to pack up and move out of the city…though this was not what Mike and Cheryl said to do. People were acting presumptuously. And in my tiny opinion, God in His Infinite Mercy, withheld the house from selling thus far so that all of His people wouldn’t abandon their duty to preach the gospel to a dying city…and world.

Let us not forget that there is a great work to do to tell every living soul of their duty to repent and give it all to Christ. He is our only Strength.

God will bless in this situation and He will be glorified despite all of us.

May God be merciful to each of us…
