Are high gas prices affecting your church attendance?

July 7, 2008

For many congregations it is. In a story out today on USA Today, churches are reporting that combining activities that used to be on different nights of the week into the same night will increase attendance. Many members of one particular church in Louisville say that “with gas at $4 a gallon, I was not as quick to drive 25 miles to get to church”.

It is said that many churches and especially denominational churches that are shrinking in number have a majority of their members that pass at least 5-10 churches on the way to church just to go to the one they enjoy. Is this true for your church? I know the church that one of the staff of Presentruth attends is 20 miles away and there are at least 15 churches closer than that particular one. USA Today
