Where the Streets Have No Name

October 14, 2008

It can be so easy to get caught up in this world and forget about the place that Abraham looked for ‘whose builder and maker was God’. Well for just a moment, I want you to think about our heavenly home that we are told will come down to earth after the 1000 years are over.

We are told that Christ has gone to prepare a place for us. In John 14:2 it says-In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

Mansions? This is how the humble savior describes what He has in store for us. There is nothing humble about a mansion…especially one in heaven.

So what will these mansions look like? Well when we read in Revelation 21 and 22 we can see a great city that is clear as crystal. Many of us have always seen pictures of a golden city, but when you read here it describes it as looking like clear crystal. Why? Pure Gold you see is thought to be crystal clear as compared to impure gold which is what we normally see on this earth.

So far so good right? So this city is a perfect cube. It is approx 1363 miles tall (into the air/heavens) and 1363 miles wide and 1363 miles long. This would be the equivalent of a city that took up approximately the entire eastern half of the United States. And don’t forget, it also goes 1363 MILES into the air. That can house alot of saints.

Well what about the mansion? Well up to this point I see this massive structure with a lot of space everywhere. When we look a little further, the bible tells us that the walls of this city are crystal clear and are approx 216 feet thick. Now I don’t know about you but I instantly think of the most luxurios ‘apartment’ like mansions with the best views in the universe. I wonder if we have balconies on both the inside and outside of these structures? Well that is if our dwellings are in the walls. But to me it would make great sense.

We also learn from these texts that there is no darkness or night in the city. That is hard to understand but sounds like a plan to me.

We then look on the inside of this city and we see that there is a river of life and on each side of the river of life there is roots to the tree of life. This tree will be able to feed all of us right? Think about how big a tree that has to be to feed every saved being from the beginning of the world. That is a lot of fruit. The bible says that the tree will bear 12 fruits, each fruit every month. WOW!!! It says that the leaves are for the ‘healing’ of the nations…what do you think that means?

This sounds like a place that I could get used to. We are told that this will come down from heaven after the 1000 years are over and will rest where modern day Jerusalem is now.

I challenge you to think about this awesome place and being with loved ones there. We are living in fearful times and we need not be afraid. We need to take the time today to tell those we love of the Savior that paid our way to this city and was taken as ransom for the death we deserve.

Jesus says in Revelation 22:12…Behold I am coming quickly and my reward is with Me.
