Is Haiti Better Off Today than 2 Weeks Ago-Pre Earthquake?
Tue, Jan 19, 2010
I know that the idea may sound completely heartless so let me explain. I first want to say that I pray that God will wrap his arms around those that have lost loved ones in Haiti. Loss of life is something I hate and I know God hates. He longs for that day when He can wipe away all of our tears.
So why in the world could Haiti be better off today? Well let’s see. Two weeks ago and for the last few years for that matter, Haitians have been eating dirt…No seriously. Click Here for Full Story on Eating Dirt
So why would they be better off now? Well two weeks ago no one on planet earth was giving a thought to the poverty and awfulness that Haiti is. It is the poorest country in the western hemisphere and one of the worst in the world. I don’t fully understand why Haiti and Dominican Republic which are the left and right half of the same island with very similar populations, why they are SO different in prosperity. I won’t go Pat Robertson here so don’t worry, but I do find it interesting that the world no longer believes in a God with judgments. If Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed today, God would be the last one most ‘Christians’ would blame or give responsibility to. Interesting to say the least.
So now here we are and sadly tens of thousands have died but hey it got the world’s attention to the poverty and wretchedness of this poor country. Do you realize that if the 500+ Million dollars from around the world via the UN actually goes to Haiti it will in a great way revitalize the country. Sad but true.
Why do we wait until disaster or death to do something? Africa is awful…what are we doing about it? Why do we send flowers to the dead but when they are alive we could not care less.
I think it may be time to think about how to live life to the fullest potential and be a blessing to those in need today before we have to be rushed upon a scene like this one.
It may work now you know, sending people around the world to Haiti but imagine if all of these other little earthquakes that have been shaking Venezuela and Cayman and other places were as devistating. You want to see the world go into a tail spin, watch what happens when disasters hit about 10-20 of the largest cities on earth…God help us…and He will.

If I were God, I would find some way of helping them, without 100.000 people having to die. But that’s just me.
And no, I don’t think Haiti is better off, and I don’t for one second think you do either.
Doing something to help these countries, like the ones in Africa, is very complicated. These are very unstable regions and with the rampant corruption, I believe very little of the money (if money is the something you are referring) sent there would actually benefit the people.
I pray also that the money sent to Haiti will help the people after the rescue and clean up effort is complete. However, Haiti will still be the poorest country in the western hemisphere after all is said and done.
I agree with you that we should help the less fortunate with our donations, food, time and other necessities if possible, especially during a time of crisis, but the one thing we all can do whether rich or poor, is pray earnestly for this country. They need our prayers now!
its a sad thing to know over 200,000 plus has lose their lives in Haiti But and this time i know our heavenly Father is sad, hurt and he is down in Haiti with his holy angels bringing relief, protection, comfort and care, God is have bad days every day not just in Haiti but the world over. God hold back the winds off strive from Haiti in though they had a bad devastion see Rev7. God needs a people to bring glory to his name see Rev14:7. To say haiti is better, i dont thinh so. Because their are suffering, choas, even touh there is more food, healtrhcare, aid, clothes. That dont make a place better,The world is not better even tough they face posperity. Trinidad and Tobago where i belong is a very wealth nation but, we have crime, woe, corruption and the list goes on. My pray is for men and women, boys and girls to vindicate the character of God, until that happens there will be more diasters the world over. But soon our Jesus will come in the clouds of Glory lets be faithful soon he will come and will not tarry. Bye God bless.
I too disagree. Haiti is not better off today than 2 wks ago. I simply believe that God wants to use this event to awaken us. The reality is the poor will always be among us. Unfortunately, in some countries the poor is the majority. So many are suffering and God desperately waits and wishes that we would help each other, in our neighboring cities and abroad. Sadly, it takes catastrophic events for us to act. You are right in saying that there are many other countries, like africa, that we also need to assist. We all need to look within ourselves and ask, “what can I do to make a difference in this world?” It is not left to us to understand why God allowed such sad events to take place! Or how He is currently judging the world. We simply must do our part… help those in need.
It is very, very sad what has/is happening in Haiti. God does not delight in destruction. Everything He created was very good. We are seeing and experiencing what Satan’s cruel kingdom is like and will see it unfold to it’s full capacity before the Lord returns. If Satan can bring to their graves unprepared souls he will. We live in THE GREAT CONTROVERSY If you think Haiti is bad, YOU AIN’T SEEN NOTHING YET. The whole world will be one great scene of chaos and destruction, and Haiti is a taste of what’s coming. AM I PREPARED TO MEET THE CRISIS AND, THE LORD? Now, during this time of “peace” we must, with the help of the HOLY SPIRIT develop holy characters. Christ must live in me! There are many distractions, and Satan would have it thus…so that I don’t prepare my soul to live in a Holy heaven. We must meet together in small groups for prayer, Bible Study, and deep consecration. Do it! Start a group in your home…people are hungry and searching for something like this!
You are right Haiti has more money now than they ever had and its very sad but T8 pg253 (With great loss of life destruction and calamities they are one of the means by which God seeks to arouse men and women to a sense of their danger)

I pray for those people who have been injured in Haiti. the earthquake in Haiti is one of the word disasters this year. I just hope that they would be able to recover soon.
You’re wrong when you say that no one was helping Haiti before the Earthquake. There were many people from many aid organizations working to help the Haitians. Doctors Without Borders lost 3 buildings in this disaster. Many volunteers from other countries were injured or killed. The Haitians are not better off for this.
I disagree, Haiti is not better off today than weeks ago before the earthquake. While I do agree that before this earthquake, Haiti was not in the minds of many, however, I believe it is a common hypocrisy in humans to sympathize with the plight of others, when the reality is so close to home. And when I say “close to home” I don’t mean by location, but rather an understanding that this could happen to any country at any given time. It is also a common hypocrisy for people to unite under such conditions, sadly but true, because most people gravitate to God or their fellow brothers and sister through fear rather than love. Haiti will be forgotten and abandon again just like in the past. And as for the differences in prosperity between Haiti and Dominican Republic, most historians can easily point out the real factors. Haiti was once one of the richest country in the world with its gold and sugar. However, when France, America, and Britain got together and refused to trade with Haiti, it became the poorest and most unstable country in the world. And now to see the same hands that had a part in the destruction of Haiti coming to the aid of Haiti, draws a contradiction for me. The Word of God states that “And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold” Matthew 24:12. This is the last days; I believe what the Word says. The way I see it, many of this outpouring support is based on the realization that this could happen to anyone and a bit of political investment.
I am also saddened about what has happened in Haiti. A lot of people talk about how Haiti was basically forgotten before the earthquake, and now getting all the attention in the world. I agree, nothing has really been done to help atleast i havent heard of anything. There are those few wonderful human beings that have been doing the right thing but only heard about it after the quake. There has not been any help on a global size or anything like that, that is going to make a significant help. I know im going to get slammed for this but a country that spends millions of dollars to go to war to “help” a country (amongst other things) that doesnt want to be helped. Those resources can be going to other uses. I admit i am among hundreds of people who havent done anything. I visited Haiti a while back and its beautiful, I learned then about the situation and did nothing. But thats something that I can change now. Now in regards of the people who are slamming God for this, saying that if he really loved his people he wouldnt have let that happen. I am not a religious person but how are we to learn as society, as a species if he goes around fixing every problem himself, if he goes around and stops you before you make a mistake how do you learn not to make that mistake again. Like if you have children you need to let them make mistakes so they learn. I believe only a desperation plea could cause something like, for so many people to be lost. But now we have learned not to wait till its too late and act now as I have. Thank you.
